The 7 stars who suffered PGA Tour elimination from FedEx Cup Playoffs
The FedEx Playoffs have already seen the surprising exit of several high-profile players who failed to finish inside the top 50 at the St. Jude Championship in Memphis.
The last time the course hosted the Open in 2019, Lowry cruised to a six-shot victory over Tommy Fleetwood. The afterparty was well documented on social media, which revealed a three-hour party bus to Dublin and an all-nighter in the Irish capital with the iconic Claret Jug as his drinking vessel.
As such, when Lowry faced the press ahead of this week's Open, he was inundated with questions about the debauchery.
"We're here to talk about golf and all anybody wants to talk about is drinking," quipped the 38-year-old.
"I celebrated well. Golf's a funny game where you lose more than you win, so when you win, you need to celebrate those victories. I did that that night.
"It's so hard out here, so hard to win big tournaments that when you do, you need to enjoy them. If I win another one, I'll celebrate twice as good."
Lowry arrives in Northern Ireland off the back of some patchy form. His last title came at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2024, a team event he won with friend Rory McIlroy. In 2025, the world number 18 finished runner-up at the Pebble Beach and at the Truist Championship.
However, he has missed the cut in the last two majors at the PGA Championship and US Open. But links golf will likely inspire something better from Lowry. The six-time DP World Tour winner was leading the 2025 Open at Royal Troon by two strokes at the halfway point before a third-round 77 saw him drop out of contention.
