Newcomer Angel Ayora hits 65 to snatch lead at Italian Open halfway mark
Angel Ayora surged into the lead at the 2025 Italian Open with a bogey-free 65 on Friday, thanks to a superb run of birdies around the turn.
The duo picked their way around TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley to finish one ahead of Cameron Champ, while Jake Knapp was a further shot behind. 2019 Open Championship winner Shane Lowry led a group on six under.
Olesen’s incredible scorecard featured eight birdies, a bogey and an eagle on the par five 18th.
"Obviously, I played great, but my putting was exceptional today," the Dane told AP.
"Don't think I missed any putts really out there. I definitely holed some long ones as well. It was nice to see everything go in."
Meanwhile, Del Solar was tearing up the soft course. The Chile star rolled in ten birdies and despite his bogey on the 17th, he needed an eagle on the last for a 59. It wasn't to be as he drove into the left rough, then hit his second 80 yards short of the green.
"I was just trying to hit good shots," said the 31-year-old.
"I was just trying to stay in the present and have fun. That's what I was trying to do. I just want to go and execute each shot," Del Solar said. "I think everyone kind of sometimes gets ahead themselves and thinking of the result or whatever. You just want to go out and just hit the golf shots."
Masters champion Rory McIlroy bogeyed the final two holes in the morning to card a 71.
