Abhishek Sharma stresses consistency as India begin West Indies series

Abhishek Sharma stresses consistency as India begin West Indies series

The 26-year-old batter was speaking ahead of India's five-match T20I series against the West Indies, which begins on Tuesday, October 6, with Shreyas Iyer captaining the side.

Sharma believes winning a major tournament is only one achievement, with sustaining high standards across multiple series requiring a different approach. He emphasised that India will need consistency, a strong collective mindset and a shared determination to keep performing.

The young batter also highlighted the importance of a positive team environment, stressing that individual contributions must be backed by a united dressing room. According to Sharma, every player needs to remain focused on the same objective if India are to maintain their level.

"I feel, in cricket especially, when I came, I was 24, now I am 26, as a young cricketer you tell yourself that there's still a lot to achieve, it's just a start," he told JioStar.

"Doing it once, I feel, is still easy, but making that thing a habit and doing it again and again, keeping the process the same, it's not easy as a player.

"But if the atmosphere in the team is such that everyone wants to perform for each other, wants to make India win, wants to dominate, then I feel it becomes a habit and it definitely helps."

The series marks the start of a new phase in India's T20 international schedule and will provide an early indication of whether the team can carry its World Cup standards into the next stage of its campaign.

With five matches against the West Indies, India will have several opportunities to demonstrate their consistency.
