Betway Premiership: Golden Arrows target Orlando Pirates scalp in fiery Durban showdown

Kick-off is at 19h30, with the Durban outfit aiming to turn their red-hot home form into a statement against one of the league's heavyweights.

Pirates are expected to rotate their squad once again as coach Abdeslam Ouaddou seeks to keep his Buccaneers fresh. The Soweto giants are fourth on the table with 19 points from nine matches after a hard-fought 1-1 draw with leaders Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld.

They trail Sundowns by three points but have played a game more, with six wins, one draw and two defeats outlining a campaign full of ambition and risk.

Golden Arrows sit seventh with 16 points from 11 outings and head into this contest buoyed by a 4-0 hammering of Marumo Gallants at the same venue. That victory made it five wins from their last six matches in all competitions, a run that has seen them net 16 goals.

Ouaddou defended his rotation strategy after the Sundowns draw, saying: "You cannot have a squad of 30 players and consistently select the same 18. It doesn't make sense, you risk injuries and lose intensity. I trust all my players; I need them all season."

Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi, while delighted with his side's recent form, warned against complacency. "We won't get carried away by the 4-0 win. It's about consistency, especially defensively, as we face a beast like Pirates," he said.

Thokozani Khumalo will again be Arrows' main attacking threat after scoring twice against Gallants, while Siyanda Ndlovu will anchor the midfield battle.

For Pirates, Oswin Appollis' pace and Tshepang Moremi's trickery could stretch the hosts, with defender Lebone Seema growing in stature after a standout display against Sundowns.

Pirates have dominated this fixture, winning all of the last five league meetings, including a 3-0 rout in May 2025 and the 7-1 demolition in April 2024. But with Arrows flying high at home, the Buccaneers may face one of their toughest domestic tests yet.
