Mamelodi Sundowns seek consistency as Galaxy ride momentum into midweek clash
Mamelodi Sundowns and TS Galaxy meet in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, each side motivated but in contrasting form.
For Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso, the message is simple: maintain composure after a 1-1 draw with Orlando Pirates. Despite dominating possession, the champions couldn't convert chances. Cardoso rejected claims of being too cautious, saying, "We showed the right mentality… if we continue like this, the goals will follow."
Sundowns, with two wins in five, remain league leaders but are eager to reassert their dominance.
Galaxy, meanwhile, head into the clash boosted by a 2-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC - their first against the Cape side. Goals from Seluleko Mahlambi and a Sanele Barns own goal ended a losing streak and lifted them to sixth place.
Coach Adnan Beganovic praised his team's spirit but warned of a tough test against the champions, recalling their 4-1 defeat on their last visit. "We must continue this momentum," he said.
The matchup promises a contrast in styles - Sundowns' possession focus against Galaxy's counter-attacking approach - as both sides chase key points before the mid-season break.
Traumatised Marumo Gallants to clash with Durban City
Marumo Gallants face Durban City at Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday with a hair-raising car accident threatening to distract them from the task at the hand.
The incident occurred after their 4–0 defeat to Golden Arrows, involving a three-car pile-up as the team returned to their hotel.
"We are thankful that all our players and staff are safe," the club said.
The team will remain in Durban this week, preparing for Wednesday's league match and Sunday's Carling Knockout Cup semi-final against Arrows. Despite the heavy defeat and the scare on the road, Gallants are determined to refocus.
Durban City, meanwhile, are looking to recover from three straight losses, with coach Gavin Hunt urging his young squad to stay composed. City are coming off the back of a last-gasp defeat to Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday.
"We can't dwell on it. We have to pick ourselves up and go again," Hunt said.
City are in ninth position with 15 points from 11 matches, while Gallants are one below in tenth with 13 points after 11 matches.
Wednesday's clash now brings together a City side desperate to stabilize and a Gallants team grateful simply to be on the pitch.
