Aussies claim first blood in Proteas tour Down Under
South Africa's bats fell short in the opening T20 International of the Proteas tour of Australia, with the hosts claiming a 17-run win.
The former Australia star batter, now thriving on the global T20 circuit, has been enjoying a golden run with the bat.
On Monday, 11 August, he delivered a match-winning 70 against Manchester Originals - his second consecutive fifty-plus score - and, in the process, played his 419th T20 match.
That innings also carried historical significance. Warner moved past Virat Kohli to become the fifth-highest run-scorer in T20 history, with 13,545 runs at an average of 36.80. Kohli, now sixth, sits on 13,543 runs from 414 matches at an average of 41.92.
The current top six list is led by Chris Gayle (14,562 runs, 463 matches), followed by Kieron Pollard (13,854), Alex Hales (13,814), Shoaib Malik (13,571), Warner, and Kohli.
Warner is now just 16 runs shy of surpassing Malik for fourth place, though Gayle remains around 1,000 runs ahead.
In The Hundred 2025, Warner has scored 150 runs in just three innings at an average of 75. After failing in his opening outing, he bounced back with two superb knocks - a fifty in his second match and the decisive 70 against the Originals.
