The veteran, who is currently playing in the Pakistan Super League and featured in the 2026 Big Bash League, failed a breathalyser test, which indicated he was over twice the legal limit to be able to drive when he was stopped for a random test by police.
Warner was back home in Sydney in between PSL matches when he was arrested. Last time out for the Karachi Kings, he scored 50. His PSL contract came off the back of a superlative BBL, where he averaged over 86 opening the batting for Sydney Thunder.
Ironically, Cricket New South Wales - which runs Thunder - and Transport for NSW have maintained a 23-year partnership. As such, they felt they needed to be ahead of any fallout.
"Cricket NSW is a strong advocate of safe driving, including avoiding drink driving, and takes incidents of this nature very seriously," Lee Germon, the NSW CEO said in a statement on Wednesday.
"David is aware of the seriousness of these allegations. We will support him through the upcoming process and work together on further educating him and all players on the importance of safe driving."
Warner's court date is set for 7 May in Sydney, four days after the PSL final on 3 May in Lahore, so the incident will not impact his participation.
