Five Dolphins players hoping to fetch big numbers in SA20 auction

We take a look at five Dolphins players who could be in demand:

Keshav Maharaj

The senior Proteas spinner was not retained by Durban's Super Giants after spending the first three seasons with his home franchise.

Maharaj will certainly be in demand at the auction at a base price of R500 000 after ascending to number 1 in the world rankings for bowlers in the ODI format.

The 35-year-old also has a good overall T20 record, having taken 162 wickets in 191 matches while going at less than seven runs to the over.

Ottneil Baartman

The Proteas seamer spent the first three seasons of the SA20 with Sunrisers Eastern Cape, playing a critical role in helping the franchise win the first two titles.

The 32-year-old has taken 41 wickets in 25 matches for the Sunrisers in the competition and is set at a base price of R200 000 at the upcoming auction.

Baartman has also been capped at international level, having played four ODIs and 12 T20Is for the Proteas.

Jon-Jon Smuts

The 36-year-old has been taken part in all three seasons of the SA20, starting off with the Sunrisers Eastern Cape and then the next two years with Durban's Super Giants.

The veteran is a solid option to have in the squad as he is adept at batting anywhere in the order while his canny left-arm spinners are very underrated.

Smuts also brings international experience after representing the Proteas in six ODIs and 13 T20Is.

Tristan Luus

The 20-year-old pace bowler was in the MI Cape Town squad that won their maiden SA20 title last season, although he only played in a single game.

Luus continued his development after being drafted into the MI New York team that took part in the MLC, playing four matches and taking six wickets.

With every franchise in the SA20 obligated to sign a U23 player, Luus could be sought after with a base price of R200 000.

Andile Simelane

The allrounder has been part of the SA20 in the third season when he played two matches for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape as they reached the final.

A hard-hitting batter that bowls medium-pace, the 22-year-old is another player that could be snapped up to fill the U23 role.

He will have a base price of R200 000 at the auction.
