Gavin Hunt relishing "fantastic" opportunity to leave a lasting impact at Stellebosch

The veteran head coach joined the Cape Winelands club this season as a replacement for Steve Barker, who left to take up a post with Tanzanian Premier League side Simba SC.

He has a wealth of experience from his time with Bidvest Wits, SuperSport United, Kazier Chiefs and Chippa United.

While he spent a number of years building teams and winning trophies with the Clever Boys and Matsatsantsa, Hunt's time with Amakhosi was overshadowed by a FIFA transfer ban.

He was never going to last long at Chippa, while his return to SuperSport didn't go exactly to plan before something of a resurgence at Durban City.

But now with Stellies, Hunt says he's excited by his latest project as he looks to make an impact at a club that ended in third place last season but have endured an inconsistent 2025/25 campaign.

In his 14 matches, Hunt has recorded five wins, five draws and four defeats - including three in the CAF Confederation Cup and one Nedbank Cup loss.

"Well, the most important thing in any football club is if they give you an opportunity to work, coach and build teams," Hunt said on iDiski Times.

"If you get that opportunity, you'll be successful. But you don't get so much time at football clubs.

"But I think it's important that we get to the end of May and then we can really look at the situation and I think there's a lot I think it needs to be done.

"This is a club where you can work, and it's really good to work, it's fantastic."
