Stellenbosch FC contract saga draws firm response from Gavin Hunt

The issue surfaced after CEO Rob Benadie confirmed that a defender (Thabo Moloisane) has been offered a new deal but has not signed, leaving his future unresolved as the season progresses.

Rather than allowing speculation to unsettle the squad, Hunt has taken a firm stance, insisting that every player must remain fully committed regardless of their contractual position.

“I know a lot of coaches do it differently. But for me, it’s simple — you either give everything here or you move on," Hunt was quoted by iDiski Times.

The experienced tactician drew on a past example involving Kaizer Chiefs and George Maluleka to highlight the risks of emotional decision-making. Maluleka was sidelined after signing elsewhere during a crucial stage of the season — a move Hunt believes can harm a team’s ambitions.

“They were going to win the league and then that decision gets made,” he said. “You’ve just got to keep playing your best players.”

Hunt revealed he has already addressed the situation directly with the players involved, giving them a clear ultimatum.

“I said to him and another player: ‘Give me your all, otherwise you go,’” he explained.
While he understands that players must consider their futures, Hunt stressed that professionalism should never be compromised.

“The football Gods will get you if you cheat the game. If you don’t do things properly now, it will follow you," he concluded.

For now, Hunt has chosen to trust his player’s commitment rather than exclude him, maintaining that honesty and effort remain non-negotiable in his squad.
