Glenn Maxwell will not make any short-term decisions about his Australia future

The 37-year-old Maxwell has signed a two-year deal to continuing playing in the Big Bash League with Melbourne Stars and is eyeing the T20 World Cup in 2028 with the LA Olympics also being held in the same year.

The allrounder's form for the Aussies in recent months has raised questions about his future but he is keen to continue playing, especially since he has already retired from the ODI format.

Maxwell told reporters in Melbourne: "I think not making a decision around my future was probably based more on what's to come over the next 12 months.

"There's not a whole lot of T20 cricket planned, so there's probably no need to make any sort of formal announcements, and just see how my body's going and see how I'm travelling and if there's opportunities to play in the future, hopefully I'm fit and firing.

"I felt like I got better and better throughout the World Cup. I probably more judge it on how I'm running around the field and how I'm feeling, probably more so than any statistics regarding wickets and runs.

"And I just felt like I was able to get through games a lot easier. Felt like I was playing my role as well as I could, and felt like I still had plenty to offer."

Australia's next assignment in the shortest format is a three-match series away against Bangladesh in June.
