T20 World Cup: Australia sign off disappointing campaign with consolation win

Both teams had already been eliminated from global tournament with the match purely to round up the group stages.

Australia won the toss and elected to field, and immediately showed their superiority when fast bowler Xavier Bartlett clean bowled Aamir Kaleem with the first delivery of the game.

Wasim Ali top-scored with a run-a-ball 32 but the Asian side lost wickets at regular intervals to be 104 all out in 16.2 overs.

Aussie spinner Adam Zampa certainly ran the show in the middle overs with figures of 4-21 in 3.2 overs.

Bartlett eventually finished with 2-27 while Glenn Maxwell took 2-13 in three overs as Australia made light work of the Oman batting line-up.

The 2021 champions then put their foot firmly on the accelerator in the run-chase to chase the 105-run target in just 9.4 overs.

Captain Mitchell Marsh struck four sixes and seven fours to be unbeaten on 64 from 33 balls to almost take his frustration out on Oman.

Australia have lost to Zimbabwe and co-hosts Sri Lanka while they beat Ireland and now Oman in the group.
