Hossam Hassan rewarded with new Egypt contract after historic World Cup campaign

EFA president Hany Rida announced the decision following the Pharaohs' impressive showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they reached the round of 16 before suffering a spirited 3-2 defeat to defending champions Argentina.

Hassan's achievements earned widespread praise, prompting the EFA board to approve the continuation of his tenure. The association also confirmed that Ibrahim Hassan will remain technical director, with the formal renewal expected to be ratified at the board's next meeting after the national team returns home on Friday.

In a statement reported by KingFut, the EFA said the decision was made to maintain stability within the national team and build on the momentum generated by Egypt's impressive World Cup campaign.

The 59-year-old coach had revealed earlier during the tournament that he had been working without a formal contract since February 2026 despite remaining in charge of the team.

Hassan was appointed Egypt coach in February 2024 and guided the Pharaohs to the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations before overseeing their deepest-ever World Cup run.

Egypt secured their first World Cup victory under Hassan with a 3-1 win over New Zealand in Group G. They then defeated Australia on penalties in the round of 32 before bowing out after a thrilling contest against Argentina.
