Hossam Hassan stays diplomatic after Egypt's controversial victory over Bafana Bafana

The result secured the Pharaohs' place in the Africa Cup of Nations knockout stages with a game to spare.

The match was marked by controversial moments, including a first-half penalty awarded to Egypt and a late incident where South Africa felt they deserved a penalty. Despite the debates, Hassan chose to stay diplomatic.

"I thank the Egyptian, Moroccan, and Arab fans for their support, and I also thank the players for their effort in today's game," Hassan told Ysscores.

"We succeeded in securing three points against a strong team, South Africa, and the true quality of the Egyptian player shines through in difficult times."

Asked about the refereeing decisions, Hassan didn't want to make any controversial statements, stating that he trusts the officiating.

"No comment on the referees' decisions. I trust the continent's and the tournament's referees, and I do not interfere in their decisions."

Hassan emphasized his focus remains on pleasing the Egyptian public rather than getting involved in controversies.

"My goal is to make the Egyptian people happy, and football is a source of joy for the Egyptian citizen. I play every match as if it were a cup final, and African football has become strong because of professionalism."

With the win, Egypt moves closer to a place in the knockout stages, while South Africa will now need to bounce back in their remaining group fixture against Zimbabwe on Monday.
