ICC announce new structure for 2027 ODI World Cup that will be co-hosted in South Africa

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the revamped global tournament following the governing body's annual conference that was held in Edinburgh.

What it means is that the teams qualifying 12th,13th and 14th will kick off the tournament in the Super Series round, where only one country from the three will progress into the group stages.

The 12 teams will then be split into two groups of six, where the top three sides plus the next-best-ranked team across both groups will then qualify for the Super 7, from which the top four sides will qualify for the semifinals.

The ICC said: "The structure has been designed to strengthen the competitive narrative across every stage of the event, with matches from Round 1 and Round 2 carrying higher consequence with a highly competitive Super 7 stage witnessing 7 qualifying teams going through a round-robin stage to qualify for the semi-finals."

The 14-team tournament will have 10 automatic qualifiers: the two Full Member co-hosts, South Africa and Zimbabwe, and the eight highest teams on the ODI rankings.
