IPL: Samson's ton and Hosein's masterclass seal CSK's 103-run rout of MI

After Mumbai won the toss and elected to bowl first under lights, CSK posted a formidable 207 for 6 in 20 overs, before bundling out the hosts for just 104 in 19 overs. It was a game defined by one explosive batting knock and one devastating bowling spell that left the MI batting order in tatters.

Sanju Samson was the undisputed star of the night, crafting a breathtaking unbeaten 101 off just 54 balls. The wicketkeeper-batter lit up the Wankhede with 10 boundaries and six sixes at a strike rate of 187.03, anchoring the innings after early momentum from Ruturaj Gaikwad (22 off 14).

Dewald Brevis chipped in with a quick 21 off 11, while useful cameos from Sarfaraz Khan and Jamie Overton helped CSK surge past 200 despite losing wickets at regular intervals. The total was always going to be a stiff ask on a pitch that offered something for the bowlers later in the evening.

Mumbai's chase never got going. They slumped to 11 for 3 inside three overs, and things only got worse when Akeal Hosein took centre stage.

The left-arm spinner produced a match-winning spell of 4 for 17 in four overs (including a maiden), ripping through the top order and middle order with his sharp turn and control.

Suryakumar Yadav (35 off 30) and Tilak Varma (37 off 29) tried to rebuild with a 73-run stand, but once Hosein and Noor Ahmad (2 for 23) struck in tandem, the resistance crumbled.

Jasprit Bumrah (1 for 31) and the rest of the MI attack had earlier gone for plenty as CSK's batters attacked freely, but it was the home side's batting collapse that told the real story.

Hosein's four-wicket haul earned him the Player of the Match, while Samson's century will be talked about for weeks.

For Mumbai, the middle-order resistance from SKY and Tilak offered brief hope, but it was never enough against CSK's disciplined bowling attack. The victory keeps Chennai firmly in the hunt, while Mumbai will need to regroup quickly after a heavy home defeat.
