IPL: SRH's batting blitz crushes KKR by 65 runs in Eden Gardens fireworks

Chasing a daunting 227, KKR were bundled out for 161 in just 16 overs, as SRH's explosive top order and disciplined bowling proved too much for the hosts.

KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bowl first under the lights, hoping to exploit any early moisture. But SRH came out swinging in typical fashion. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma tore into the powerplay, racing to 84 for 1 in six overs.

Head smashed 46 off 21 balls (6 fours, 3 sixes), while Abhishek's 48 off 21 (4 fours, 4 sixes) kept the scoreboard rattling.

Even after both fell in quick succession, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy steadied the ship with a crucial 82-run stand. Klaasen's controlled 52 off 35 (4 fours, 1 six) and Nitish's handy 39 off 24 ensured SRH posted a formidable 226 for 8.

KKR's bowlers fought hard but leaked runs at the death. Blessing Muzarabani claimed an impressive 4 for 41, while Vaibhav Arora took 2 for 47, yet they couldn't prevent SRH from posting their highest total of the young season.

The chase was always going to be tough on a pitch that offered pace and bounce. KKR got off to a blistering start with Finn Allen's whirlwind 28 off just 7 balls, but the wheels came off spectacularly.

Jaydev Unadkat struck twice in the powerplay, and Eshan Malinga and Nitish Kumar Reddy (2 for 17) tightened the noose. Angkrish Raghuvanshi (52 off 29) and Rinku Singh (35 off 25) provided brief resistance, taking KKR to 150 in the 14th over, but the required rate climbed past 15.

Wickets tumbled in a heap - three in the space of eight balls - as SRH's varied attack kept their lengths perfect.

SRH's fielding was sharp, and their death bowling clinical, restricting KKR well inside the target. The win not only gives the Orange Army their first points of the campaign but also sends a strong message to the rest of the league: their batting firepower remains as potent as ever.

A convincing night for SRH, and a sobering one for KKR, who will need to regroup quickly before their next home assignment.
