Harry Kane hits back at Michael Owen as Bayern Munich form 'speaks for Itself'
Harry Kane has responded firmly to Michael Owen’s criticism of his decision to join Bayern Munich, insisting he is thriving in Germany both on and off the pitch.
The 53-year-old Dane arrives after a successful spell leading Denmark's national team, where he guided them to the semi-finals of Euro 2020 and secured qualification for multiple international tournaments. He now returns to club football for the first time since his time with Mainz in the Bundesliga.
Bayer Leverkusen managing director for sport, Simon Rolfes, has said the club are confident they have chosen the right man to continue the Werkself's growth. "We are delighted to have brought in Kasper Hjulmand, whose work we have followed closely over a long period of time," Rolfes said.
"He knows our club well, not least through his former assistant Ismael Camenforte, who worked here for several years. Kasper's proactive approach fits perfectly with our philosophy."
Hjulmand, who replaced Ten Hag after a disappointing start to the season, said he was relishing the challenge. "I have always perceived Bayer 04 as a very well-run, well-structured, and highly ambitious club. This impression has been strengthened over the past few days," he explained.
"It is an honour to be entrusted with such a team. I am motivated by the task of shaping the future of Bayer 04 Leverkusen with both proven and exciting new players."
Leverkusen, who lifted the Bundesliga title in the 2023/24 season under Xabi Alonso before his departure to Real Madrid, have endured a difficult transition under Ten Hag. The Dutchman was relieved of his duties after a run of poor results left the club trailing in the league.
Hjulmand's arrival marks a fresh start as Leverkusen look to regain momentum domestically and in the Champions League. His first match in charge will be a Bundesliga clash against Stuttgart on Friday night at BayArena.
