Asante Kotoko boss lauds technically impressive Kaizer Chiefs
Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito heaped praise on Kaizer Chiefs following his side's Toyota Cup victory over the Betway Premiership side.
The 31-year-old Malawian international recently signed with the Asian outfit after a brief yet impactful stint with Magesi, where he played a key role in their historic 2024 Carling Knockout Cup triumph.
The defender was instrumental in the Limpopo-based club's surprise run, helping them defeat giants Mamelodi Sundowns in the knockout Cup final to lift their first-ever top-flight trophy.
Despite his impressive form during his six-month stay, Mzava claims PSL clubs overlooked him after his departure, unfairly labeling him as past his prime.
"I played six months for Magesi and after my release, some teams thought I was done and finished," Mzava told Pan-Africa Football.
"It's unfortunate how quickly people forget what you've done on the field."
Mzava further revealed that while a club from Limpopo expressed interest in acquiring his services, the offer presented to him was financially disrespectful, prompting him to seek opportunities elsewhere.
"I had interest locally, but the offer didn't reflect my value. It was more of an insult than a contract," he added.
His reputation as a dependable centre-back was built over nearly a decade in South African football.
He boasts a wealth of PSL experience, having turned out for several South African clubs including AmaZulu, Golden Arrows, Bloemfontein Celtic, Cape Town City, and Highlands Park.
Now with Penang FC, Mzava is ready to begin a new chapter in Asia, and he leaves with parting words that highlight a recurring issue faced by experienced players in the PSL — a lack of appreciation and fair treatment despite consistent performances.
