Mofokeng vows to 'keep fighting' for South Africa after famous win over Korea

Mofokeng vows to 'keep fighting' for South Africa after famous win over Korea

The 21-year-old impressed in his first start for South Africa in the World Cup following his game-changing appearance as a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Czechia last week.

Mofokeng has been a crowd favourite in the national team and has risen to the occasion after supporters demanded he gets fielded after not coming on in the opening clash against Mexico.

"Obviously, we're very proud of ourselves," said Mofokeng to SABC Sport after the match.

"From the start we came here to obviously win, it was a very difficult match, but we are very proud of ourselves, very proud of our country, because our country has been doing well, we have been doing well since the qualifiers, so I think we deserved it.

"We worked very hard for it, and you saw the mentality from our side, it was very, very difficult and yea I think we did very well and will keep fighting for the country."

The small-framed playmaker also revealed their winning strategy for their impressive victory over the higher ranked Republic of Korea.

"Obviously we are playing against the best teams, so I think we came here to not concede because the past two games we conceded goals," explained the 'President yama2K'.

"So, I thought if we don't concede we'll probably get one goal, one chance and yeah we got many chances, we didn't use them, we got only one goal, but what matters is that we got three points and go to the next round.

Bafana Bafana will now turn their attention to their first World Cup knockout stage appearance when they face co-hosts Canada on Sunday.
