Nasreddine Nabi sets condition for his future at Kaizer Chiefs

The Tunisian coach's tenure at Chiefs has been clouded by inconsistent league form, despite securing a historic victory in the Nedbank Cup final last Saturday.

Fresh off leading the club to a 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final, which marked their first trophy since the 2014/15 season, Nabi's position at the club has been questioned. According to reports from Sunday Times, the 49-year-old could be shown the door at the end of the season, despite the silverware.

While Chiefs' trophy triumph in the cup has been a high point, their league campaign has been far from consistent. With eight wins, 12 losses, and six draws, the club finds itself languishing in ninth place with 30 points after 26 games. With two matches remaining, they are still fighting to secure a spot in the top eight, which would guarantee them a place in next season's continental competitions.

Nabi, who still has one year remaining on his two-year contract with Chiefs (with an option for an additional year), has been vocal about his desire to continue at the club. However, he made it clear that his future hinges on the club providing the necessary resources to build a successful team for next season.

“I wouldn't be honest if I say that I'm going to stay if the club doesn't allow me to get all the tools to succeed next season," Nabi told SuperSport's Extra Time. “They have promised, and I've promised the fans, that I want to build a successful team that will compete in every competition and win trophies."

For Nabi, success in the upcoming campaign is non-negotiable. "That's the condition for me to stay because I don't want to go through what I went through this season," he emphasized.

With only two matches left in the current Betway Premiership season, Chiefs will face Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City FC. The outcome of these matches could have significant implications for both the team's position in the league and Nabi's future with the club.

While the trophy-winning triumph in the Nedbank Cup has given Chiefs some respite, the pressure remains high for Nabi to deliver consistent results in the league next season. For now, the club's management and fans will be closely watching how the final matches unfold - as the stakes for both the team's future and their coach's tenure grow higher.
