Nathan Ellis ruled out of Chennai Super Kings' IPL campaign with injury

Nathan Ellis ruled out of Chennai Super Kings' IPL campaign with injury

The Australian seamer, expected to lead CSK's pace attack and serve as a key death-overs option, will not recover in time, leaving a significant gap in a bowling unit already low on IPL experience.

Ellis' absence comes after CSK's decision to release Matheesha Pathirana, further weakening the overseas pace contingent.

Matt Henry, fresh off a strong T20 World Cup showing, and all-rounder Jamie Overton remain as the primary foreign options, while Zak Foulkes offers little experience.

Domestically, Khaleel Ahmed will lead a young group that includes Anshul Kamboj, who impressed on debut last season, alongside Ramakrishna Ghosh, Gurjapneet Singh, and Mukesh Choudhary.

The franchise is now assessing potential replacements, with options like Gerald Coetzee, Alzarri Joseph, Jhye Richardson, Riley Meredith, Spencer Johnson, and Wiaan Mulder under consideration.

Limited availability of big-name players after the auction, coupled with travel logistics, adds urgency to the recruitment process.

Under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK will open their campaign against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 30.

After finishing bottom of the table last season, the team will be eager to recover, but the loss of Ellis will test both their planning and depth in the early stages of the tournament.
