Nepal end T20 World Cup campaign with thrilling chase against Scotland

After being put in to bat, the Scotland national cricket team built a promising foundation through Michael Jones, who struck a fluent 71 from 45 balls as Scotland surged to 132-1. However, the innings unravelled after Sompal Kami removed Jones and Brandon McMullen in the same over, sparking a collapse that saw Scotland lose six wickets for 38 runs.

Kami’s variations proved decisive as he finished with figures of 3-25, restricting Scotland to 170-7 despite a late six from Mark Watt.

The Nepal national cricket team began their chase confidently as Kushal Bhurtel (43) and Aasif Sheikh (33) added 74 for the opening wicket. Scotland fought back through Michael Leask, whose three wickets left Nepal needing 71 runs from the final six overs.

Dipendra Singh Airee then turned the contest with a blistering unbeaten 50 from just 23 balls. Combining aggressive strokeplay with sharp running, Airee struck four boundaries and three sixes while sharing a match-winning partnership with Gulshan Jha, who remained unbeaten on 24.

Jha sealed the win with a boundary in the final over as Nepal completed the chase with four balls remaining, delivering an emotional and long-awaited triumph despite both teams exiting the tournament at the group stage.
