Proteas spinner George Linde set for maiden IPL stint with Lucknow Super Giants

Proteas spinner George Linde set for maiden IPL stint with Lucknow Super Giants

The 34-year-old Linde has been summoned by the Super Giants after Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga withdrew from the T20 tournament after failing to recover from a hamstring injury.

Hasaranga never joined the IPL side this season after tearing his left hamstring during Sri Lanka's opening game at the T20 World Cup in February.

Linde has previous T20 franchise league experience having participated in the Hundred, Major League Cricket and the PSL while he has been a mainstay for four seasons at home with MI Cape Town in the SA20.

A left-arm spinner and hard-hitting batter, Linde was part of the Proteas squad that reached the T20 World Cup semifinal before losing out to New Zealand last month.

In 250 T20s in his career, Linde has taken 218 wickets with an economy rate of 7.42 while with the bat, he has scored 2 746 runs at an average of 19.47 with a strike rate of 136.68.

Linde will join a Super Giants team that includes Proteas T20 captain Aiden Markram and fast bowler Anrich Nortje.

The Super Giants have bounced back nicely in this season's IPL after going down to Delhi Capitals in their opener, winning their next two matches.
