Report: Josko Gvardiol edging closer to new long-term Man City contract

The proposed extension comes despite significant interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

However, the Premier League champions appear set to fend off that attention by rewarding the 24-year-old with an upgraded long-term deal.

Gvardiol arrived at City in 2023 from RB Leipzig in a transfer worth 77.6 million pounds. At the time, he signed a five-year agreement that was due to expire in 2028.

Since making the move to England, the defender has established himself as a key figure in Pep Guardiola's squad. He has featured 122 times for the club across all competitions, contributing 13 goals and 10 assists during that period.

The new agreement would represent a significant vote of confidence in a player whose campaign was disrupted by injury. Gvardiol missed much of the latter half of the season after suffering a fractured tibia.

Despite that setback, he is currently away on international duty with Croatia at the World Cup.

Croatia are scheduled to begin their tournament against England on Wednesday, while discussions over his City future move closer to completion.
