Roston Chase appointed West Indies' new Test captain

The 33-year-old Chase last played in a Test match more than two years ago, when he took the field against South Africa in Johannesburg in March 2023.

Chase has 49 appearances in the longest format and averages just a shade more than 26 with bat, including five centuries and 11 fifties, while he has taken 85 wickets with four five-wicket hauls bowling his off-spin.

Cricket West Indies (WWI) announced Chase's appointment on social media and said it had been "unanimously approved by the CWI Board of Directors".

His first assignment as captain will be the three-match Test series at home against Australia, which begins on his home ground in Bridgetown on 25 June.

Notable performances under Brathwaite's leadership reins was a 1-0 series win at home against England in 2022 and a Test victory against the Aussies in Brisbane in January 2024.
