Shubman Gill continues hot form as India pile the pressure on England in 2nd Test

Gill followed up his 269 in the first innings with 169 as India declared on their second innings on 427-6 to set the home team a mammoth target of 608.

England were in trouble at the close of play as they slumped to 72-3 with a major task ahead on Sunday if they want to avoid defeat.

India started the fourth day on 64-1 aiming to build on their lead further on their 180-run lead on the first innings but lost overnight batter Karun Nair (26) fairly early

Opener KL Rahul wne to half-century but was out out soon after as his stumps were castled by fast bowler Brydon Carse to walk back to the dressing room for 55.

Gill was joined at the crease by Rishabh Pant and the duo put on 110 for the fourth wicket before Pant was out for an entertaining 65.

The lead was ballooning at that stage with Ravindra Jadeja and Gill adding another mammoth 175-run partnership as India piled on the runs.

The declaration eventually came with England requiring a target of more than 600 and the home side made a bad start as they lost three wickets in 16 overs before stumps.

Ollie Pope (24 not out) and Harry Brook (15 not out) will for England on Sunday with a big task ahead of them.
