South Africa u19 suffer heavy defeat after batting collapse

Australia won the toss and chose to bowl first, which proved to be a great decision after their bowlers decimated the South African batting lineup.

The young Proteas were under the cosh from the get-go, with Armaan Manack falling for a golden duck in the first over of the match.

Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals with no real partnerships of significance through the entire innings.

Paul James, in at six, top scored with 34 off 60 balls, with opener Jorich Van Schalkwyk next best with 26 off 55 balls.

Captain Muhammed Bulbulia, who scored a brisk 19 off 14 balls batting third, was the only other player to get into double figures as South Africa were skittled for just 118 runs in 32.1 overs.

Charles Lachmund starred with the ball for Australia, returning figures of 29-3 in seven overs, with Will Byrom and Aryan Sharma picking up two wickets apiece.

The South African bowlers did their best to limit the Australians and JJ Basson bowled very well, returning figures of 41-3 in 10 overs.

However, the total was just too small to defend, with Steven Hogan anchoring the innings with a well-played 43 off 73 balls as Australia knocked off the total inside 33 overs, losing four wickets in the process to secure an emphatic six-wicket win.
