South Africans overseas: Jasper Wiese at the double for Urayasu D-Rocks

Wiese was the star of the show in an abject performance by the D-Rocks, who were handily beaten 48-14 by the Kubota Spears.

The Springboks No. 8 scored both of his side's tries, made 13 tackles and gained over 30 metres in nine carries in a vain attempt to get his side into the match.

His first score came around the half-hour mark, receiving the ball from a lineout before executing a powerful leg drive to barge his way over the line in a broken maul.

The second try came in the 59th minute as he bulldozed his way through the defence after receiving a short pass from a ruck five metres from the tryline.

The Spears side featured seven South Africans, including Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx, who came off the bench around an hour into the game.

Franco Mostert captained the Honda Heat to a thrilling 44-38 win over Toshiba Brave Lupus, leading his charges well in a chaotic back-and-forth affair.

While Mostert did not manage to get on the scoresheet, his clear head in tense situations was a huge boon for the Heat and his presence at the lineouts gave them confidence in the set piece.

He also chipped in with eight tackles and hit the gain line hard with nine carries that made 20 metres. He even had one clean line break and an offload that led to a try.

Jesse Kriel also captained his side and marshalled the Yokohama Canon Eagles well as they claimed a 20-14 win over Toyota Verblitz.

Kriel put in a big shift on defence with 12 tackles and ran well when he got the opportunity, which were limited, gaining around 40 metres for his side in just three carries.

Manie Libbok started for the Kinetsu Liners and was entrusted with the kicking duties, chipping in with six points from the tee to help his side to a narrow 16-14 win over Koto Blue Sharks in the League One second division.

The Springbok fly-half also executed two lovely cross-field kicks to each of his wings in a move that eventually led to the winning try. The first was from his own tryline to relieve pressure and the second put Takahio Hayashi away for the score that won the game.

Kwagga Smith came off the bench in the second half but was unable to help prevent the Shizuoka Blue Revs from falling to a 60-45 defeat to the Kobe Steelers.

The versatile forward came on in the 48th minute and ended up making seven tackles in a valiant defensive effort.
