Cameron Green hoping 50 against West Indies is a sign of more to come
Australia all-rounder Cameron Green was delighted to score 50 in the second innings of the second Test against West Indies and is hoping it's a sign his form is turning.
The visitors resumed the day in trouble at 12/2 with nightwatchman Nathan Lyon and Green at the crease. Windies quicks Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seal were aided by the gloomy conditions and they kept the batter very quiet in the opening overs.
After a rain break, it was Alzarri Joseph who drew first blood, getting a thick outside edge from Lyons' bat for third slip to gobble up and leaving Australia 28/3.
A resolute Smith strode to the crease to put things right. A series of classy drives kept the scoreboard ticking over Green - admittedly not in his best form - poked and prodded around. The pair collected 93 runs, which included Green's first half-century at No.3 for the Baggy Greens.
But he chopped on the very next ball after reaching the milestone.
Smith continued his counterpunch innings until Juston Greaves trapped him in front. An outraged Smith quickly reviewed, but umpire Nitin Menon's on-field call stood and Smith trundled off for 71. Greaves struck again in his next over with a wide one that grabbed the edge of Beau Webster's drive and went to third slip, leaving Australia teetering on 181/6.
Alex Carey and Head calmed things down to combine for 31 runs before the latter was cleaned up by Joseph, who produced one that nipped back a touch, leaving Head wafting at fresh air.
Australia would end the day 254 ahead with three wickets in hand on a pitch that is offering some variable bounce.
