Temba Bavuma set to play first-class fixture for SA A ahead of Test series in India

Temba Bavuma set to play first-class fixture for SA A ahead of Test series in India

Bavuma was ruled out of the ongoing Test series in Pakistan due to a calf injury that he picked up against England in September.

The two-match Test series against India starts on 19 November with Bavuma set to line-up for the South Africa A team in their second four-day fixture against India A in Bengaluru from 6 November.

The South Africa A team will open their tour to India with a four-day match on 30 October and will also play India A in three one-day fixtures.

Batter Zubayr Hamza and spinner Prenelan Subrayan, who are both in the Test squad currently in Pakistan, have also been included in the SA A squad.

Western Province spinner Kyle Simmonds has earned his maiden SA A call-up to the four-day side, while Lions all-rounder Delano Potgieter has been included for the first time in the 50-over squad.

SA A head coach Wandile Gwavu said: "We're looking forward to this tour and are eager to take on the challenge of competing against India in their own backyard.

"Our ability to play and bowl spin has improved significantly over the years, so playing in the subcontinent, which will be a first for many of the players, will be a good test.

"It's been a while since South Africa A last toured India, and playing there always demands adaptability and mental toughness.

"Gaining experience on subcontinent surfaces and learning to adapt to varying conditions, specially in the red-ball format, will be invaluable for our players as we continue to build towards future tours and potential Proteas opportunities."

South Africa A squad for two four-day fixtures: Marques Ackerman (captain), Temba Bavuma*, Okuhle Cele, Zubayr Hamza, Jordan Hermann, Rubin Hermann, Rivaldo Moonsamy, Tshepo Moreki, Mihlali Mpongwana, Lesego Senokwane, Prenelan Subrayen, Kyle Simmonds, Tsepo Ndwandwa, Jason Smith, Tiaan van Vuuren, Codi Yusuf.
