Temba Bavuma's Proteas make history with monumental Test series victory in India

India resumed the day 27-2, still requiring a further 522 runs on the final day for an unlikely victory.

It was however a quick procession on a deteriorating fifth day pitch at the Barsapara Stadium that was hosting it's first ever Test match.

After all the talk about leaving the declaration too late, the tourists put that to bed as Harmer ran through the home side's batting line-up.

The off-spinner finished with figures of 6-37, to go with his three wickets in the first innings, and claimed the player-of-the-series award.

Aiden Markram also went into the record books with nine catches in the match, the most by any player in Test history.

The series victory is monumental for captain Temba Bavuma and head coach Shukri Conrad as the the Proteas put years of big defeats in India behind them to dominate the hosts.

Bavuma joins Hansie Cronje as the only other South Africa captain to win a series in India with Cronje doing it as far back as the year 2000.

It is a series result that not even the great team of Graeme Smith could achieve in India, with superstars such as Jacques Kallis, Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn to name a few.

Following a 1-1 draw in the Test series in Pakistan, this South Africans outfit have now shown they have the resources to compete and win in the sub-continent.

Bavuma remains unbeaten in Test matches since taking over the captaincy, now presiding over 11 wins in 12 matches as skipper.

The result that also puts the Proteas second on the table in the World Test Championship table as they look to defend the trophy that they won in June at Lord's against Australia.
