Zimbabwe seal Test victory in Bangladesh to go ahead in two-match series

It was only Zimbabwe's fifth overseas Test victory in their history and came after they completed their highest successful chase in the fourth innings.

Chasing a target of 174, the visitors were given the ideal start when opening pair Brian Bennett and Ben Curran put on 95 for the first wicket.

Bennet completed his second half-century of the game but fell for 54 - to go with his 57 in the first innings - while Curran struck 44.

Bangladesh spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz then instigated a stunning collapse as he returned figures of 5-50 for a 10-wicket haul in the game.

Wessly Madhevere, batting at number six, held his nerve amid the carnage at the end to be unbeaten on 19, and sealed the win with a boundary off Mehidy's bowling.

The African team's victory was ultimately set up by fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani who was magnificent in the second innings taking 6-72 to bowl the hosts out for 255.

Bangladesh had won the toss on the first day but were bowled out for just 191 with Muzarabani and left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza taking three wickets apiece.

Zimbabwe then responded with the bat getting to a total of 273 with Sean Williams (59) joining Bennett in getting a half-century to give them a first innings lead of 82.

The tourists can now win the series if they avoid a defeat in the second Test that starts in Chattogram on Monday.
