Abdeslam Ouaddou believes Orlando Pirates left goals behind in Soweto derby victory

The Buccaneers produced a dominant display to secure a resounding 3-0 victory at a packed FNB Stadium, a result that sent them to the summit of the Betway Premiership standings.

Pirates now sit on 41 points from 18 matches, three ahead of defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns. However, Sundowns have a game in hand and could reclaim top spot on Sunday should they record a convincing win over Sekhukhune United at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Despite the comprehensive margin, Ouaddou felt his side left goals on the table.

"We played the game the way we wanted to play it. We started it the way we planned, and the players respected the game plan. The quality of football we played and our efficiency made the difference," said the Pirates mentor.

"I think we could have won maybe 4-0 if you look at the data and the statistics. I believe we had the majority of possession. We created the most chances. The control of the game was ours.

"Defensively, we were very strong. We deserved the victory - Orlando Pirates were the better team - and I wish Kaizer Chiefs all the best."

From the opening whistle, Pirates dictated the tempo, pressing aggressively and forcing errors, while maintaining defensive solidity at the back. Chiefs struggled to cope with the intensity and fluid movement of the Buccaneers, who combined control with cutting edge in the final third.

The emphatic derby triumph not only restored bragging rights but also underlined Pirates' title credentials as the race for Premiership honours gathers momentum.
