Abdeslam Ouaddou pledges to bring more silverware to Orlando Pirates
Abdeslam Ouaddou says he took the job at Orlando Pirates knowing full well the expectation to fight for trophies in his first season.
Mbule recently signed a one-year deal with the Buccaneers following the expiry of his contract with Sundowns.
The 27-year-old was recalled early from his loan stint at Sekhukhune United due to reported disciplinary issues, casting doubt on his professional conduct.
Ouaddou, who has long admired Mbule's talents, didn't shy away from addressing the player's past but insisted he still believes in his potential-provided he applies himself both on and off the pitch.
"It's funny-when I spoke about Mbule, I hadn't even been approached by Pirates yet," Ouaddou told Pirates TV.
"Robert (Marawa) simply asked me about players I admired, and I mentioned him. I like players who aren't afraid to have the ball and take responsibility on the field."
However, the Moroccan tactician warned that talent alone is not enough to sustain a successful career in football.
"Some players need to be managed properly. Of course, he has talent, but maybe he didn't manage his career or choices well," Ouaddou said.
"Maybe he was too good too soon, but football is unforgiving. If you don't respect the game, your body, and the profession-it will humble you."
Ouaddou, who is known for his discipline-first approach, stressed the importance of professionalism, urging Mbule to reset his mindset and make the most of what could be a final shot at redemption.
"Players need to take care of their bodies and lifestyle. Football can reward you quickly, but it can also take everything away just as fast. If you respect football, it will respect you. If not, your career can end before you realise it."
As Pirates gear up for a new season under fresh leadership, all eyes will be on Mbule to see whether he embraces Ouaddou's challenge-and finally lives up to the promise he once showed.
