AFCON 2027 qualifiers: Ivory Coast ease past Somalia, Egypt run riot, Nigeria humbled

 

Burundi 2-2 Algeria

Algeria survived a major scare after falling behind early to two quickfire Burundi goals. An own goal by Fares Chaibi and a strike from Jean Girumugisha put Burundi ahead, but Algeria rallied through Mohamed Belloumi and Adil Boulbina.  

Ethiopia 0-1 Senegal

Senegal displayed disciplined tactical composure to grind out a tight 1-0 away victory over Ethiopia. The Lions of Teranga secured the decisive early breakthrough courtesy of Ibrahim Mbaye, successfully taking all three points to stay top.

Lesotho 0-2 Morocco

Morocco proved their status as group favourites with a routine, dominant 2-0 win against Lesotho. Brahim Díaz opened the scoring late in the first half before Azzedine Ounahi sealed the victory in the 82nd minute.  

South Sudan 0-5 Egypt

Egypt delivered a ruthless attacking masterclass, thrashing South Sudan 5-0 in Juba. Ibrahim Adel bagged a brilliant brace alongside strikes from Mostafa Mohamed, Omar Marmoush, and Mahmoud Trezeguet to seal a commanding victory for the Pharaohs.

Ghana 2-4 Gambia

Ghana's qualifying campaign hit crisis mode after relinquishing a lead to lose 2-4 against Gambia. Despite goals from Thomas Partey and Antoine Semenyo, Gambia mounted a dramatic comeback led by Ebrima Colley's brace and Omar Colley.

Guinea-Bissau 3-0 Nigeria

Guinea-Bissau pulled off a stunning upset by dismantling Nigeria 3-0 at home. A brace from Zinho Gano alongside a second-half goal from Franculino Dju caught the Super Eagles completely off guard, leaving the visitors empty-handed.

Congo 1-1 Cameroon

Congo and Cameroon shared the points in a hard-fought 1-1 Central African derby. Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring for Cameroon in the first half, but Silvere Ganvoula answered back for Congo to ensure both teams left with a point.

Somalia 0-2 Ivory Coast

Reigning champions Ivory Coast put on a professional display to secure a 2-0 victory over Somalia. First-half goals from Amad Diallo and Vakoun Issouf Bayo ensured the Elephants managed the pace cleanly and earned a smooth win.
