Magesi slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, a result that leaves them anchored at the bottom of the table.
The loss was their 11th in the league this season, with the club now winless in 13 matches across all competitions. Their last victory dates back to October against TS Galaxy, and they have accumulated just 14 points from 21 matches.
Freese, who took over from John Maduka in an attempt to steady the ship, was visibly frustrated when questioned about the club's winless streak, insisting he should only be judged on his tenure.
"Wait, stop it. You'd better stop it. I've only been here for five games—don't tell me about the others," Freese said after the match.
"Let's get that out of the way first. You are talking to a different person. I don't want to be funny with you, but this is the same question I was asked last week."
He stressed that lumping him together with results prior to his arrival creates a misleading narrative.
"In football, yes, you will say Magesi have not won in 13 games—that is correct. But we must be specific. Don't paint everyone with the same brush."
Later, Freese adopted a calmer tone when addressing whether his players are struggling mentally amid the prolonged drought.
"I'm trying to instil confidence. In football, there is a win and there is a loss, but players must take responsibility as individuals within the team," he explained.
"But my job is to help, give confidence, and take the team out of where we are at the moment."
Magesi's continued struggles underline a fragile confidence within the squad as they search for solutions to revive their campaign.
