Alvaro Carreras and Thibaut Courtois fired up for El Clasico showdown at the Bernabeu

Only two points separate the sides heading into the first El Clasico of the campaign, with Madrid holding the narrow advantage over their Catalan rivals.

For Alvaro Carreras, it will be a day to remember. The 22-year-old full-back, who joined Madrid from Benfica in the summer, is preparing for his first taste of the famous fixture, and he could not hide his excitement.

"El Clasico is a game every kid dreams of playing in," Carreras told Real Madrid's media team. "At home, it's always a very exciting and important match for everyone. We're really looking forward to it and we know it's going to be tough, but very important."

Carreras, who once trained in Madrid's academy, recalled his first ever visit to the Bernabeu as a schoolboy from Galicia. "It was an end-of-year field trip. I hadn't told anyone at school, but I still remember the feeling of being there. Now, being able to play here every day is a dream come true," he said.

The young defender also urged fans to create a powerful atmosphere on Sunday, adding: "We all have to be together. We really feel the support of our fans, and we'll fight to get the win for them."

Thibaut Courtois, a veteran of several Clasicos since joining Madrid in 2018, echoed his teammate's confidence. "The team are in good shape," said the Belgian goalkeeper. "We've prepared well, and we're approaching it as an important match."

Courtois reflected on some of his favourite moments against Barcelona, including Madrid's 2–0 win in March 2020 that helped them reclaim the league title that season. "There have been several great matches with good memories," he said.

Offering advice to Carreras ahead of his debut, Courtois said: "He just needs to enjoy it. It's a very exciting match, and the key is to play naturally and give your best."

Courtois also praised the Bernabeu crowd, calling them Madrid's "twelfth man". "When you're at home and the atmosphere is incredible, it really pushes you," he said. "Even in difficult moments, they stay behind the team. The stadium becomes a cauldron, and that's exactly what we need on Sunday."

Real Madrid will be aiming to strengthen their grip at the top, while Barcelona will look to make a statement of intent in the title race. All eyes will be on Madrid as another chapter of football's greatest rivalry unfolds.
