Appollis rues Bafana Bafana 'slow starts' at FIFA World Cup 2026

Appollis rues Bafana Bafana 'slow starts' at FIFA World Cup 2026

South Africa has conceded within the first ten minutes of their fixtures against Mexico and the Czech Republic, adding more pressure on the team from the onset.

Appollis opened up on the issue, admitting that it makes things tougher with Bafana Bafana having to chase the game from the start.

"Obviously, it's not nice starting slow, you know," said Appollis to reporters after the draw with Czechia.

"But I think after 15 to 20 minutes we did get back into the game [against Czechia]. You could see the positive mindset going forward. We just didn't manage to create a lot of chances, but we will work on that at training.

"It was a very massive point. I think the boys fought and stayed positive. So, we will just continue with our preparation and look forward to the next game."

The 24-year-old has been a key player for South Africa under coach Hugo Broos, making 28 appearances for the national team, scoring eight goals while also providing eight assists.
