Auxerre confirm Oussama El Azzouzi return to Bologna following loan spell

The 25-year-old joined Auxerre at the start of the 2025/26 campaign in a move aimed at strengthening the club's midfield options as they prepared for another season in the French top flight.

Although injuries disrupted large parts of his campaign, El Azzouzi still managed to make a valuable contribution whenever called upon.

The Morocco international featured in 11 Ligue 1 matches and scored once, finding the net in Auxerre's 3-1 victory over FC Metz, wrote Moroccoworldnews.com wrote.

After recovering from his fitness setbacks, the defensive midfielder returned in time to play a role during the closing stages of the season, helping the team finish their campaign on a positive note.

With the loan agreement now officially expired, El Azzouzi heads back to Italy, where his immediate future remains uncertain.

The midfielder is expected to assess his options during the summer transfer window, with the possibility of either fighting for a place at Bologna or seeking regular playing time elsewhere.

Auxerre paid tribute to the player following the confirmation of his departure and thanked him for his contribution throughout the season.

"Thank you Oussama... Loaned by Bologna this season, the Moroccan midfielder returns to Italy at the end of it," the club said in a statement, as quoted by the publication.

"Ouss', the entire club thanks you and wishes you the best for the future."

El Azzouzi's return comes during an important period for Bologna as the Serie A club continues preparations for the new season following their recent European campaign.

The Moroccan international will now be eager to impress during pre-season as he looks to earn a prominent role in the squad.

However, with competition for places expected to be intense, his performances over the coming weeks could prove decisive in determining whether he remains in Italy or pursues a new challenge elsewhere.
