Bafana Bafana look to extend unbeaten streak in Gqeberha against Zambia

The Bafana Bafana side have not lost in their last 24 consecutive matches under Belgian head coach Hugo Broos and have recently secured qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"It wouldn't be a good thing if we lost the game on Saturday," said Bafana coach Hugo Broos to reporters this week.

"I will ask every player to focus and concentrate the same way they do during the qualifiers. Even if it's not a qualifier, I will not accept players taking this game as a little holiday."

Broos also emphasized that he is using the fixture to help determine his final squad selection for the upcoming 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco next month.

“I want to win on Saturday. On the other side, it's also the last opportunity to call some players I want to see a little bit closer,” added the 73-year-old.

In contrast to the hosts form, Zambia have lost three of their last four matches, finishing a disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign in fourth spot from Group E, leading to the departure of coach Avram Grant.

However, Zambia's new head coach Moses Sichone is relishing his first test at the helm against South Africa ahead of leading the side at the upcoming 2025 African Cup of Nations.

"We're taking it so seriously," said Sichone to BolaNews.

"And we also want to win the game because South Africa qualified for the World Cup, and it's a good test for us. As a technical bench, we are taking this game as if it's a cup final. We know that they have underrated us."

The teams will be facing each other for the first time since Chipolopolo beat Bafana Bafana 2-1 in an international friendly in October 2020.

Kick-off is at 15h00.
