Bayern Munich edge closer to Bundesliga title after wild Dortmund draw

The Bavarians dominated the first half but were unable to assert their dominance on the scoreboard before half time - a fact they would later regret.

Dortmund were much better to begin the second half and quickly found the opening goal of the game through Maximilian Beier just three minutes after the restart.

Bayern hit back hard with a quick-fire double by Raphael Guerreiro (65') and Serge Gnabry (69') before Waldermar Anton rescued a point for Dortmund in the 75th minute.

While the result was hardly ideal for the Bavarians, star striker Harry Kane admitted they were happy to take a point on the day.

"I think we can live with the point. It was an intense game; both teams had chances. In the first half, we stood well, conceded few chances, but also didn't create much going forward. In the second half, things became more open; we took more risks and were more vulnerable at the back," he said after the game.

Bayer Leverkusen were unable to take advantage of the draw as they were held to a drab 0-0 stalemate by Union Berlin, allowing Bayern Munich to maintain their six-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga over the weekend, RB Leipzig weathered a second-half fightback by Wolfsburg to claim a thrilling 3-2 win.

Leipzig looked to have secured the win after a devastating first half and five minutes of the second, in which a brace from Xavi Simons complemented the early goal by Lois Openda to give them a commanding 3-0 lead.

However, goals from Killian Fischer and Andreas Skov Olsen made things much closer than anyone was expecting.

Two goals from Andrej Kramaric handed Hoffenheim a comfortable 2-0 win over 10-man Mainz and Augsburg were able to secure a 2-1 win over Bochum despite also receiving a red card.

St Pauli bounced back from a goal behind to beat Kiel 2-1, while a Christian Gunter own goal meant Freiburg players scored all three times in their 2-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.
