Bayern Munich step up full-back hunt ahead of transfer window

Bayern Munich step up full-back hunt ahead of transfer window

The Bundesliga giants are expected to make changes in several areas, including midfield, attack, and defence. There is also uncertainty in goal, with the club preparing to sign a new understudy should Manuel Neuer decide to retire at the end of the season.

In central defence, Bayern are under no immediate pressure to act. Dayot Upamecano's contract extension has provided stability, meaning any move for a centre-back will likely depend on whether Kim Min-jae leaves the club in the coming months.

The priority, however, is clear at full-back. Bayern have already begun working on a deal to sign Feyenoord's highly rated right-back Givairo Read, who is seen as a key addition to improve depth on the right. Sacha Boey is expected to depart permanently in the summer, which would open the door for Read to step into the squad.

But Bayern's plans go beyond just one signing. The club are targeting reinforcements on both flanks to ensure they have the depth required to compete across multiple competitions.

On the left, changes are also expected. Raphael Guerreiro is set to leave when his contract expires, with Bayern showing no intention of offering him a new deal. While Alphonso Davies remains the first-choice option, and Josip Stanisic has impressed as a reliable backup, the club want another specialist left-back to strengthen the position.

Stanisic's versatility offers cover on both sides, but Bayern are aiming for five strong options across the two full-back roles next season.

Beyond defence, further changes are expected. Leon Goretzka is likely to leave, creating the need for a new midfielder, while the club are also targeting a left-sided forward to provide competition and cover in attack.

As it stands, Bayern are preparing for at least four new arrivals in what promises to be a significant summer overhaul.
