Bayern Munich thrash Mainz as Harry Kane inches towards first major trophy

Bayern have an eight-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings with just three games of the season remaining, meaning Bayer Leverkusen in second need to win all of their remaining fixtures to stand any chance of challenging for the title.

The Bavarians, on the other hand, need just a single point from their remaining three games to secure the championship for themselves in what would be star striker Kane's first-ever league trophy.

Leroy Sane opened the scoring for Bayern in the 24th minute against Mainz before Olise doubled their advantage 13 minutes later.

Despite their complete dominance for the entire game, it took until the 84th minute before the result was entirely secure when Eric Dier made it 3-0.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga on Saturday, Mathias Honsak's solo effort was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Heidenheim at Stuttgart and goals by Patrik Schick (13') and Emiliano Buendia (45+1) handed Leverkusen a 2-0 victory over Augsburg.

Frankfurt took full advantage of an El Chadaille Bitshiabu red card to thrash RB Leipzig 4-0 with Ansgar Knauff (21', 53'), Hugo Ekitike (67') and Robin Koch (71') all getting on the scoresheet.

Max Rosenfelder scored the only goal of the game as Freiburg beat 10-man Wolfsburg 1-0 while Dortmund needed a late Waldemar Anton goal to secure a dramatic 3-2 win at Hoffenheim.

Without question, the match of the day in the Bundesliga on Saturday was Kiel's thrilling 4-3 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Shuto Machino was named Man of the Match after scoring both the opening and final goals of the game in the 15th and 91st minutes respectively.

Sandwiched between those were strikes by Alexander Bernhardsson (23'), Tomas Cvancara (60'), Alassane Plea (69'), Armin Gigovic (76') and Franck Honorat (86').
