Bayern Munich weigh up Luis Diaz 'fatigue' concerns

Bayern Munich weigh up Luis Diaz 'fatigue' concerns

Diaz has become a subject of internal discussion at Bayern after failing to hit his best level in recent matches. The 0-0 draw away to Schalke was followed by Vincent Kompany's decision to leave the 29-year-old on the bench for Sunday's 2-1 win over SV Elversberg.

Kompany introduced Diaz while the match was still in the balance, hoping his pace and movement could make the difference.

However, Diaz missed a good opportunity to create a goal for Harry Kane when he opted not to play the ball to the England striker.

Despite that moment, Kompany remains confident in the winger's ability to cause problems for opponents.

"It's all about finishing. His energy consistently creates danger," Kompany said after the victory.

"You have to create those chances, and he does that time and again with his deep runs and his activity."

The Bayern coach's comments suggest Diaz's work rate and movement remain highly valued, even if his finishing has not been as sharp as expected.

There are also concerns over the amount of football Diaz has played. The winger has been involved almost continuously for the past 22 months, including at the 2026 World Cup.

That workload could become an important factor during the international break, with Colombia facing matches in the United States and another trip to Australia in November.

The travelling, time-zone changes and additional international fixtures could lead Bayern to consider giving Diaz a longer period of rest.

Bayern's next Bundesliga fixture is against Union Berlin at the Allianz Arena on Friday, when Kompany will hope Diaz can begin to rediscover his best form.
