Betway Premiership: Mamelodi Sundowns drop points against Marumo Gallants

Iqraam Rayners continued his fine run of form by putting the defending champions ahead in the 28th minute, heading home from Marcelo Allende's pinpoint cross.

However, Gallants were back on level terms just seven minutes later when Keanu Cupido turned the ball into his own net after Ronwen Williams had parried an effort from Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo.

Masandawana could have extended their lead early on, but Peter Shalulile squandered a golden opportunity when he fired over the bar.

After the equaliser, both teams created further openings but were unable to find a decisive second-half goal.

There was some positive news for Sundowns as Bafana Bafana defender Khuliso Mudau made his return from injury, coming off the bench for his first appearance since the FIFA Club World Cup.

Teboho Mokoena also reclaimed his place in the starting line-up, while Cupido was preferred in defence over Bathusi Aubaas.

Divine Lunga was handed a start at left-back, with Aubrey Modiba among the substitutes, and Jayden Adams featured from the off as SA U-20 international Kutlwano Letlhaku dropped to the bench.

The draw means Sundowns stay second on the table with 15 points, one adrift of early pacesetters Sekhukhune United.
