Chippa boost survival hopes
Chippa United moved four points clear of the relegation zone with a convincing 3-0 win over Richards Bay FC on Saturday night.
The Chilli Boys controlled large periods of the match, and Sirgio Kammies broke the deadlock just before halftime, tapping in from close range after a spill by Richards Bay goalkeeper Ian Otieno, giving the hosts a vital lead going into the break.
The second half saw Chippa maintain pressure and extend their advantage, with Justice Figuareido setting up Somila Ntsundwana for the second goal.
Richards Bay tried to respond with substitutions, but the Chilli Boys struck again late through Sinoxolo Kwayiba, who capitalised on a defensive error to seal the victory.
Polokwane City and Siwelele share the points
Earlier in the day, Polokwane City and Siwelele FC shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, with both sides cancelling each other out in a tightly contested affair.
The match was evenly balanced from the outset, with few clear-cut chances as both teams defended resolutely. Former Kaizer Chiefs forward Kgaogelo Sekgota went close early on for the hosts, while Siwelele threatened through Chibuike Ohizu and Tebogo Potsane, both of whom tested Polokwane City goalkeeper Lindokuhle Mathebula either side of the break.
As the game opened up in the second half, chances fell at both ends but composure in the final third was lacking. Vincent Pule came closest for the visitors late on, only to be denied by Mathebula, while City also failed to capitalise on their opportunities. In the end, neither side could find a breakthrough, and the points were shared.
