Broos confident new Bafana Bafana coach will inherit strong squad

The Belgian mentor is expected to vacate his role as head coach of Bafana Bafana following their historic FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign in North America.

However, the 74-year-old has expressed his confidence in the pool of players he has worked with during his tenure and in the recent tournaments.

"If there's a new coach, he needs to do what he needs to do and work like he works," said Broos.

"He doesn't need to listen to me or me give him advice; he will know what he needs to do. He will know he has a good team and it's up to him to work with it and maybe work on what this team lacks, to make it better and progress.

"It's not up to me to give advice – if there's a coach to come in for Bafana Bafana, he will know what he needs to do. I think the mentality of this team has changed a lot compared to five years ago."

Broos has been at the helm of the South African national team since May 2021, leading the nation in 60 matches, winning 29, drawing 19 and losing 12 fixtures.

The South African Football Association [SAFA] is expected to make an official announcement about the head coach position of Bafana Bafana soon, with Helman Mkhalele, Pitso Mosimane and Herve Renard touted as possible replacements for Broos.
