The agreement, signed in Cairo on a Monday by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe and European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela, marks a new era of collaboration centred on sport and development diplomacy.
Under the terms of the partnership, the European Commission will support CAF's flagship tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2025 in Morocco, AFCON 2027, and the CAF African Schools Football Championship.
"This partnership reflects the mutual commitment of CAF and the European Commission to the growth of African schools and youth football," said Motsepe.
"It's also a recognition of the significant progress we've made in governance, ethics, and transparency. We're not just building competitions - we're building futures."
This strategic alliance also serves to amplify the EC's 150 billion euros Global Gateway investment programme, with a focus on enhancing infrastructure, connectivity, and education across Africa.
The partnership intends to leverage the wide appeal of football - particularly among Africa's youth - to promote shared values, economic development, and stronger ties between Europe and Africa.
A centrepiece of the initiative is the CAF African Schools Football Championship, which aims to engage over 33,000 schools across the continent, promoting grassroots participation and long-term educational benefits.
