Cameroon set sights on victory in World Cup qualifier against Angola

The showdown is set for the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé — the heart of the nation's capital and its second-largest city — where home support could prove crucial as the Indomitable Lions chase a must-win result.

Marc Brys' side got back on track with a convincing 2-0 away win over Mauritius on October 8, responding well after a setback in their previous match when Cape Verde ended their five-game unbeaten run. That victory not only boosted morale but also kept Cameroon firmly in the race for World Cup qualification.

Cameroon currently lie in second spot in Group D, two points behind group leaders Cape Verde.

The path to direct qualification is clear but tough: they must beat Angola and hope Eswatini hold or defeat Cape Verde in their final fixture.

Going into this clash after their victory against Mauritius, Cameroon coach Marc Brys praised his team for the victory, and he knows what the challenges going into their game against Angola.

"We played intelligently in the first half. The game could have been more vertical, but we had control. We deserved this victory. It's good for morale and for our group standings. And there are no injuries, so we're happy at the end,” he said.

"We've already played against Angola, and we know they're a team that plays with a lot of speed, and boldness too. We'll stick to our style and find their weak points. We have a few days to prepare well.”

With everything still to play for, Monday's match could prove decisive in determining whether Cameroon books its ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
